The Maison de la Mémoire et du Patrimoine joins in the Compagnie des Guides' 200th anniversary celebrations by presenting a new exhibition.
In 2021, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix celebrates its 200th anniversary. Founded in 1821 on the initiative of the municipality and the guides themselves, it was then confirmed by the Sardinian royal power in 1823, which gave it its first regulations. Since then, the Company has been able to adapt to political, sociological and tourist developments as well as to the mountain itself, to the development of mountaineering and to climate change.
Thanks to a rich iconography, archival documents and unpublished objects, the exhibition presents the history of this prestigious institution and of the profession of guide in the Mont-Blanc massif. Come and discover 200 years of history of a corporation dedicated to the mountains where solidarity and adaptation are the key words.
Free entry for children < 18 years.
