Corinne Jouin trained as an advertising graphic designer. In 2004, she met young papercutter Sophie Crawford who taught her about the art and technique of papercutting.
The hotel is pleased to welcome a new exhibition which will take place from December 3, 2020 to April 19, 2021 in the artists' corridor of the "Maison Carrier".
Corinne Jouin is a trained advertising graphic designer. She quickly gave up this profession for the "call of the mountains". She moved to the Chamonix valley in 1991 and became a mountain leader. There, she is nourished by wide open spaces, local stories, pastoral traditions, ...
Through visits, exhibitions and walks in the Alps, she discovered the art of paper cutting. She was immediately fascinated by this mode of expression, this folk art typical of the Gruyère and Saanen regions.
In 2004, she met Sophie Crawford, a young paper cutter who exhibits her work here at the Hotel "Hameau Albert 1er". She teaches her cutting techniques. This is how Corinne gets back in touch with her graphic designer's scalpel and makes him talk and play with happiness. At her beginnings, she exhibited at the Galerie Burgener in Geneva, at Catherine Kartal's in Chamonix, and more recently at the Café Comptoir in Vallorcine. The clients she takes for walks order her cut-outs inspired by the experiences she has shared and the landscapes she has travelled through.
In this way, she finds a balance between two passions - mountains and carving - which complement and feed off each other perfectly.
