Bar des sciences : Tous les animaux font-ils de la politique ?

in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Presentation

For chimpanzees, ants, and bees, living together requires organization and decision-making. But how do they form societies without holding elections? An evening to delve into the heart of social systems in the animal world.

Meetings, alliances, power grabs, about-faces: what if politics were an old habit borrowed from the natural world? No ballot boxes, no ballots—and yet, have chimpanzees turned coups d’état into a national pastime? Did ants invent organized anarchy? Are marmots despotic monarchs who reign over their burrows? And did bees invent voting by a show of hands—or rather, a show of legs, six times over?

An evening to explore animal societies and leave wondering who—monkeys or humans—has best understood how to live together.
