Charousse pasture
A haven of peace, preserved from the excesses of the Chamonix valley, the Charousse mountain pasture is made up of a group of traditional chalets, with preserved architecture that seems to be out of time.
The Alpage de Charousse, a testimony to pastoral history and mountain architecture. Situated on the impressive glacial polis that form the bedrock of the Mont-Blanc Massif and the Aiguilles Rouges, the Alpage de Charousse is a magnificent place with an exceptional view of the Mont-Blanc Massif. Easily accessible via a gently sloping, well-marked path, it takes the whole family around 1 hour to reach the mountain pasture from the Parking des Chavants. To preserve the site, please stay on the path and don't cross the fences. Beautiful, well-preserved traditional farmhouses form a hamlet. This alpine pasture was a summer transition zone for herds going out to pasture. A little historical focus: it was in 1926 that architect Albert Laprade fell under the spell of this alpine pasture. He acquired one of the chalets and, above all, a large number of traditional objects and furnishings, which he bequeathed to the commune of Les Houches. This collection can be seen at the mountain museum in Les Houches.
