Presentation

The Col des Montets chalet reopens to the public after major interior renovation work and accessibility for people with reduced mobility carried out by the Chamonix town council, owner of the site, and with a new scenography.

This original scenography was piloted by the Community of Municipalities of the Chamonix Valley in the framework of the cross-border project Interpretation trail of the natural and cultural heritage of the Integrated Territorial Plan of the Mont Blanc Area and co-financed at 85% by the European program ALCOTRA France-Italy 2014-2020. It mobilized several actors: Asters, the manager of the nature reserves of Haute Savoie, Arnar, the association of the friends of the reserve as well as the Centre de Recherches sur les Ecosystèmes d'Altitude (CREA).

The aim of this European project is to improve the tourist offer in terms of heritage interpretation on the Espace Mont-Blanc territory, in particular by a significant increase in the quality of the reception of the public.

In addition to communication and networking actions, the project also includes investments in public reception sites at the gates of protected natural areas.

In the Chalet du col des Montets, you will find visuals on the fauna and flora, paintings on the landscapes and the evolution of the environments, naturalized animals, interpretation tables, models, microscopes, a projection area... as well as a store and a bar.

Alex Bruneau, the nature coordinator of the Community of Municipalities of the Chamonix Valley is on site to welcome you, guide you and answer your questions. Trainees are also present on the site to assist the public.

Animations for families are scheduled on Fridays, conferences are proposed on Tuesdays in connection with the Arnar and outings are organized every Thursday.
