Presentation

This house is a place of valorization of the oral and photographic archives collected by the Municipal Archives and a center of documentary resources. Several temporary exhibitions are proposed each year.

This house is dedicated to: the conservation of sound, oral and photographic archives collected by the "Memories of the City" service; the promotion of archives and heritage in general through interpretative exhibitions and cultural activities; consultation and research with a documentary resource center open to all, including a library and a historical photo library (database that can be consulted on site).

This place can evolve thanks to your contribution and your active participation. Each of you has documents that could complete the exhibitions or the archives. To enrich the collections, several possibilities are offered to you: donation or deposit. The documents collected in this way will then be classified, inventoried, digitized and finally used in the historical photo library, the exhibitions or the animations. Do not hesitate to contact us.

EXHIBITION 2023
THE EUPHORIA OF THE MOUNTAINS: ANDRÉ CONTAMINE AND MOUNTAINEERING IN THE 1950S AND 1960S

From December 17, 2022 to September 17, 2023

Close to the great figures of his time, at the cutting edge of techniques and always on the lookout for new routes, André Contamine was a master for a whole generation of mountaineers. To share his passion for the mountains, he chose photography as his preferred means of expression.
Through a selection of nearly 150 photographs, come and discover his enthusiastic and passionate view of mountaineering in the 1950s and 1960s.
This exhibition was conceived by the Maison de la Mémoire et du Patrimoine and the Archives municipales de Chamonix, in partnership with Gilles Modica, journalist and writer specializing in the history of mountaineering.
