The Mountain Museum evokes rural mountain life by recreating the rooms in a traditional dwelling and displaying everyday objects used in the Chamonix Valley in days gone by.
The Mountain Museum is located in one of the oldest houses in the centre of the village and harbours a large collection of ethnographic objects used in agro-pastoral activities in the villages and pastures of the Arve valley.
The museum features three rooms from a traditional dwelling: the “pèle” (bedroom and living room), the “outa” (kitchen) and the “sarto” (cellar). Meanwhile, two rooms are used for temporary exhibitions. On the ground floor, the collections all relate to the dairy industry, porterage, farm work and the immigration of the people of Les Houches in the 19th century.
Guided tours, activities and workshops for all ages are held during french school holidays.
