Presentation

The Col des Montets chalet reopens to the public after major interior renovation work and accessibility for people with reduced mobility carried out by the Chamonix town council, owner of the site, and with a new scenography.

This original scenography was piloted by the Communauté de communes de la vallée de Chamonix as part of the cross-border project Parcours d'interprétation du patrimoine naturel et culturel du Plan Intégré Territorial de l'Espace Mont-Blanc and 85% co-financed by the European program ALCOTRA France-Italie 2014-2020. The project involved Asters, the manager of the Haute Savoie nature reserves, Arnar, the association of friends of the reserve and the Centre de Recherches sur les Ecosystèmes d'Altitude (CREA).

The aim of this European project is to improve the tourist offer in terms of heritage interpretation in the Espace Mont-Blanc area, in particular by significantly upgrading the quality of the services offered to the public.

In addition to communication and networking initiatives, the project also includes investments in visitor reception facilities at the gateways to protected natural areas.

In the Chalet du Col des Montets, you'll find visual displays on the flora and fauna, paintings on landscapes and the evolution of environments, naturalized animals, interpretation tables, models, microscopes, a projection area... as well as a store and a bar.

A nature coordinator from the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de Chamonix is on hand to welcome you, guide you and answer your questions. Trainees are also on hand to assist the public.

Family events are scheduled on Fridays, conferences are held on Tuesdays in conjunction with the Arnar, and outings are organized every Thursday.
