A nice family walk that everyone can enjoy. The path lies at the foot of the southern slope of the Valley, following the right bank of the river Arve. Away from the traffic of the main road, easy and relaxing, this is the ideal walk to Chamonix.
From the SNCF railway station in Les Houches, join the Coupeau road and cross the bridge over the train tracks. Follow Chemin des Eaux Rousse on the right until you reach the woods. Carry straight on along the path towards Chamonix. The forest trail then follows the Arve river to Les Bossons, below the Vouillouds gully, crosses the grove and carries on around the edge of Les Gaillands following the particularly photogenic Promenade à l’Anglais (rock-climbing site, lakes, refreshments).
Carry on past the rock-climbing site along Les Pècles road to the left, which will lead you right into the centre of Chamonix via the Lionel Terray roundabout.
Follow the same route to return to your starting point (allow 2 hours), or take the bus or train.
If you want a shorter walk, start from the Les Bossons or Piralotaz bridges, or the Montquarts footbridge.
