Dans la peau de l'ours
Laetitia Merli's new documentary "Dans la peau de l'ours" stars Wayne Snellgrove, a survivor of the 60s Roundup, stolen at birth and sold to white parents.
Dans la Peau de l'Ours (60', 2023, Laetitia Merli, Gens de Terrain production)
The film presents Wayne Snellgrove, aka Standing Bear, an aboriginal from the Saulteaux tribe of Saskatchewan, Canada, survivor of the Roundup of the 1960s, stolen at birth and sold to white relatives. An intimate portrait that plunges us into his personal history of individual and collective trauma, alcohol, drugs and humiliation. His story is that of the "American Indians", those whom governments wanted to assimilate by force, killing the Indian in the child's heart. It's now both a matter of course and a battle to make people aware of this historical tragedy, whose impact is still very present on the reserves today. With this film, Wayne wants to make his voice heard for the thousands of children who were unable to return home. Author, healer, spiritual leader, Wayne continues to walk the Red Way of Native wisdom, and tells us how the spirituality of his roots has given him the strength of resilience that he now uses to help others.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Wayne and director Laetitia Merli, who will provide the French translation.
