Glacier d'Argentière

in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Presentation

The Argentière glacier is a glacier of the Mont-Blanc massif. It flows towards the village of Argentière, hence its name.

About 100 years ago, the glacier reached as far as the Argentière temple (1,250 meters); in recent years, the terminal tongue of the glacier, which still extends to about 1,600 meters, has separated from the rest of the glacier at about 1,900 meters.
