Office de Haute Montagne

in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Presentation

The Office de Haute Montagne (OHM) is one of Chamonix's reception areas, dedicated to information and mountain conditions. It's one of Chamonix's cult places for preparing mountain outings. Open all year round, free access.

OHM was founded in 1972 at the instigation of Chamonix guide Gérard Devouassoux after a particularly accident-prone mountaineering season (public opinion was moved to seek a solution that would preserve freedom while limiting and reducing mountain accidents).
Since then, the objectives of the center have remained unchanged: to inform, advise and guide mountain sports enthusiasts in order to prevent accidents.
A unique and essential resource, it provides all (or almost all) the useful information you need to prepare for your mountain adventure: weather, terrain conditions, topos, maps, hut information, etc. Throughout the year, the OHM team maintains close links with mountaineers and mountain professionals in order to provide the most accurate and precise information on the quality and practicability of our routes. Information is also available by telephone or on the La Chamoniarde website.
It's also the place to admire a historic 3D model of the Mont Blanc massif (produced by IGN in 1942), recently "lit up" in the truest sense of the word by La Chamoniarde.
to reflect the past and future evolution of glaciers, and to locate summits, refuges
frontiers and main itineraries.
