Fondue Ever
The Most Rustic – La Calèche
A rich history dating back to 1946. La Calèche was founded by Pépé Luc, whose son Jeannot—a snow acrobat—was spotted by Walt Disney (yes, really). And if there were a mountain-themed restaurant at Disney, it would be La Calèche. It has it all: the timeless old-fashioned stove, the vintage brass instruments, century-old wooden skis, and a bobsled from the 1924 Winter Olympics. On the walls, posters and old photos of the Compagnie des Guides—you can barely see the wallpaper anymore. A real attraction, right down to the fondue pot.
The Most Star-Studded—Malabar Princess
In the heart of Chamonix, the Malabar Princess serves up fondue with extra flair. Here, cheese reigns supreme, and Savoyard tradition is elevated to haute cuisine. Voted best fondue at the highly competitive Toquicimes contest, the house-made Savoyard fondue bears a signature that makes connoisseurs’ mouths water: that of three-Michelin-starred chef Emmanuel Renaut.
The result? A downtown fondue, yes—but with the DNA of a mountain peak.
Perfect for those who love their fondue… with stars.
The Most Neoclassical – Le Café Comptoir
A postcard-perfect setting, but a contemporary take on a mountain chalet.
Sleek design and a cozy atmosphere. Le Café Comptoir blends styles, and we love it. At lunchtime, it’s full steam ahead as you come off the trail connecting the Col de Balme to Vallorcine to snag a spot on the terrace with a faux animal-skin rug. In the evening, enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner for two: reimagined Italian classics and a show-stopping fondue—flambéed with Armagnac. After that, at Café Comptoir, it’s not out of the question that the evening will transition into a DJ set under a faceted deer head…
The Most Unconventional – Le Frometon
Le Frometon is Chamonix’s most famous hideaway. Head to the lobby ofthe Heliopic Hotel & Spa. Look for the fake cold storage room door. You’ve arrived in MOF Pierre Gay’s aging cellar: about fifty exceptional wheels of cheese are maturing in peace. It’s tempting, but don’t give in! Not just yet… One more step—pass through the gaping brick wall. Legend tells a dark tale of a heist by gangsters obsessed with cheese… You’ve arrived: the old-school dairy is a secret restaurant that serves three fondues featuring blends crafted by Pierre Gay. To die for.
