Sweet and Unusual
A trip to an educational farm… Not a bad idea at all
The idea behind “Mont Blanc Fermes Péda” is as simple as it is essential: putting agriculture back at the center of things. The organization supports farmers, promotes eco-grazing, uses animals to combat invasive plants, and lets you experience real farm life. Summer, winter, or in between—the doors of participating farms are wide open for lively, informative, and downright cool visits. There’s no just watching the animals from a distance or leaving with just a few theoretical facts.
You’ll step inside the farms, watch the farmers at work—and watch closely, because next it’ll be your turn! You’ll learn how to make butter, tomme cheese, and press apple juice… In short, it’s all authentic and delicious.

Farmers Galore
In the Valley, one experience follows another, and no two are alike. At Gérard Berrux’s Pain de Chibon, you’ll go from meeting the Hérens cows to tasting farm-fresh bread that’s still warm. A rare, dedicated place where biodiversity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s part of everyday life. Further on, at Les Croets Mastins, sheep’s-milk cheese is made right before your eyes—and those of the guard dogs keeping watch. Ferme de Montroc, Les 3 Terres in Les Chavants, and Ferme de Vallorcine round out the picture, with dairy processing, mountain cows, and landscapes that will never need filters.
Where and when can you visit them?
- Pain de Chibon: farmers’ market directly at the farm every Wednesday
- Ferme de Montroc: Abondance cows—tome and raclette cheese production—farm shop open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
- Les 3 Terres: farm shop, Hérens cows, production of Tome and fresh cheeses & meat—Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
- Griaz Farm: Hérens cows—Tome cheese production and meat—By reservation only

- Ferme de Vallorcine: cheese—Brunes des Alpes cows—they sell at the Chamonix market, and their farm store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Fondue in a yurt: Savoyard Mongolia
For a dinner that’s out of the ordinary, headto theEvolution 2 Chamonix yurt. Meet at the Argentière train station for a leisurely 30-minute walk—just enough time to leave the village behind and work up an appetite. Upon arrival, the fire is crackling, the aperitif is already served, and the soup is steaming. You’re not far from home, yet you already feel like you’re somewhere else.
Inside the yurt, the atmosphere is cozy and warm. On the menu, nothing superfluous: fondue made with local cheeses, regional charcuterie, dessert, and a quart of wine. Everything you need to share, laugh, and lose track of time. The evening takes place every Wednesday—and more often if there’s a good vibe, for groups. The walk back is a leisurely stroll, with a slow digestion and heads full of happy memories.
