CHAMONIX CHANGE DE SIÈCLE
The ENSM is pleased to invite you to a book signing and meeting for Jean-Philippe Gaussot's new book "CHAMONIX CHANGE DE SIÈCLE" on Wednesday September 20 at 6pm in the ENSA library.
Fascinated by the history of his valley, Jean-Philippe is also keen to share and promote his father's literary and photographic work. After a first book devoted to the history of the Plage de Chamonix, closely linked to his family, he set himself a bold but exciting challenge: to reproduce, as accurately as possible, several hundred shots taken by his father in the streets of Chamonix and the surrounding area, 50 or even 75 years ago. Complemented by documentary research and meetings with several witnesses of the past or their descendants, this little game enabled him, he hopes, to produce an interesting representation of Chamonix's evolution from one millennium to the next!
During this presentation, Jean-Philippe will briefly introduce himself and his father, whose youth was rich in humanitarian commitments (JEC, Spanish War, Resistance...). He will then tell us how his book "Chamonix change de siècle" came about, and present its best pages. A slide show will highlight the transformations of this exceptional little town, with "before/after" photos, charts summarizing the history of the main buildings and stores, and several maps of the town drawn up at different times. Some of the valley's best-known figures will also be featured.
A discussion will follow, during which comments and testimonials from former Chamoniards and visitors will be welcome, and you will be able to purchase Jean-Philippe's two autographed books at the end of the event.
