Raquettes Haute montagne - Mer de Glace - Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix
In conjunction with our guides, this walk will allow you to visit the mills and bedières that channel the glacier's surface waters in summer.
Departing from Montenvers (1,913m), reached by cogwheel train, the Mer de Glace snowshoe outing takes you on a journey of discovery into the magical world of glaciers. Roping along with our guides, you'll visit the mills and bedières that channel the glacier's surface waters in summer. In the distance, you'll be able to witness rockfalls in the impressive moraines, a concrete consequence of the melting caused by global warming in the Alps. At the foot of Les Drus, you'll enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the peaks of the Mer de Glace Basin, and you can also visit the famous ice grotto and admire its distinctive color.
The Mer de Glace snowshoe outing presents no technical difficulties. The glacier is reached via a specially prepared itinerary using the Montenvers gondola. This outing is aimed at hikers wishing to discover the world of glaciers, and requires no mountaineering experience. If you'd like to discover the world of high mountains, why not take the Col du Géant snowshoe hike from Pointe Helbronner.
