Abdullah Miniawy and Nino De Elche
Two leading figures on the European world music scene, two major Mediterranean voices, finally meet on stage, and it's for La Nuit des Ours.
These two artists were hoping to meet on stage.
LA NUIT DES OURS, which Abdullah Miniawy is honoring for the third time, was enthusiastic about this project
of two major Mediterranean voices. Abdullah Miniawy forges the link for a new, atypical journey with Nino de Elche, whose esoteric vocals are a perfect match for the Egyptian's smooth melodies.
> ABDULLAH MINIAWY
Victoire de la musique 2023 for the album Le Cri du Caire was born on March 29, 1994 in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. He is a charismatic figure on the Egyptian art scene. As a poet, singer and actor, he became a symbol of resistance and hope during the Egyptian revolution of 2011, using slam to give voice to a youth in search of change. At just 17, Miniawy immersed himself in the social movement seeking to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak. Her slam pieces were soon copied onto the walls of Cairo. Taking the microphone in Tahrir Square, he became one of the faces of the Egyptian Spring.
Miniawy is known for his haunting voice and sharp lyrics, influenced by Sufi mysticism and the erudite readings of his youth. His creations tackle a variety of themes, including ecology, religion, oppression and freedom. In Europe, he has been working for ten years with renowned musicians such as trumpeter Erik Truffaz and saxophonist Peter Corser, as well as the Corsican choir A Filetta.
> NINO DE ELCHE
Nino de Elche was born 40 years ago in the town of Elche, near Alicante. An acclaimed Spanish artist on the contemporary flamenco scene, Nino is one of the finest husky voices of his generation. Immersed in tradition from an early age, he has gradually twisted its codes to incorporate other artistic influences. With his shaven head and dark beard, he likes to behave like the child he claims to have remained. All his life as a master singer, he uses it to debunk the statues he worships and to turn his voice into a machine for stripping away reality. Today, he claims to sing "à la gitane", in the expressionist vein of Manuel Torre (1880-1933), a genially degenerate cantaor whose twilight repertoire he occasionally crosses.
Suffice it to say that the unprecedented meeting of these two great Mediterranean voices promises to be an anthology.
