Community climate hike and Letters to the Earth workshop to get involved in the International Year of Glacier Preservation

Join us for an inspiring and immersive half-day climate hike to Chamonix's breathtaking glaciers, organized by the Sustainable Alpine Tourism Initiative (SATI) to celebrate the United Nations International Year of Glacier Preservation.

The event aims to bring together researchers, local communities, tourism stakeholders, political decision-makers and sustainable development officials to share views, learn more about glaciers and climate change, and discuss concrete solutions for sustainable development in mountain tourism regions.

The tour will include a special "Letters to the Earth" workshop, led by Amelia Parisian, nature expert and director of the Letters to the Earth program.

Meet us at Les Moussoux station at 9.15 a.m. to begin our excursion. This 8 km guided hike will take us along a spectacular mountain trail with views of the glacial peaks around Chamonix. Along the way, we'll share our knowledge of the history of the region's glaciers, the impacts of global warming and the essential role of sustainable development in protecting mountain environments. During the hike, Lettres à la Terre will offer immersive experiences linking participants to each other and to the surrounding glacial landscapes. From a panoramic vantage point, a moment of creative writing will be offered to reflect on the importance of mountains, nature, glaciers and the Earth to us, individually and collectively, as citizens of mountain communities. With these iconic glaciers as a backdrop, we'll write our messages on letters to mountains and glaciers, some of which will be shared (with permission) at future events and in celebration of the International Year of Glacier Preservation.

We'll be back at the Bossons train station by 2:15pm, to close the morning with a space for discussion and shared commitments to climate action.
