Concert: Orchestre des Pays de Savoie - SAKURA Tour

in Vallorcine
Presentation

As part of its 2025 program and SAKURA tour, the Vallorcine church will welcome the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie for an original concert featuring works by French composers from the classical and contemporary Japanese repertoire.

In the heart of the Pays de Savoie, emblematic landscapes, whether mountains, lakes or valleys, become a source of inspiration for young composers.
These territories, rich in emotions, images and memories, have given birth to ten "Cartes Postales Musicales": original creations commissioned and performed by the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie.
An invitation to a journey in sound, highlighting the creativity of the younger generation while paying tribute to the land that inspires us.

Japan and France have a wonderful love affair. As early as the end of the 19th century, Claude Debussy was fascinated by Japanese culture, and discovered Asian sounds (notably the Javanese gamelan at the 1889 Universal Exhibition).
His work, and that of Chopin before him, paved the way for new harmonies, which in turn influenced Japanese composers.

For this concert, we'll hear music by two immense film composers: Toru Takemitsu (author of the Kurosawa film soundtrack) and the late Ryuichi Sakamoto (author of music for Bertolucci, Almodovar and Iñárritu).
The program concludes with an apotheosis, featuring several pieces from the pen of Joe Hisaishi. The now legendary composer of Hayao Miyazaki's cartoons continues to delight us with his prodigious melodic sense and poetic power.

Daniel Huertas is a young Spanish conductor interested in both classical and contemporary repertoire. His performances are characterized by a clear reading of the score and a sincere, direct expression. In the summer of 2022, he was awarded the Neeme Joervi Prize at the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, and in February 2023, he won second prize in the Juventudes Musicales de Espa'a conducting competition. Daniel Huertas began his musical education in Campo de Criptana, Spain, at the age of 5. He took up the clarinet, while showing an interest in conducting and piano. He studied clarinet with José Luis Estellés, and orchestral and choral conducting with Arturo Tamayo and Gabriel Baltes at Musikene, San Sebastian. He continued his studies in contemporary music conducting at the Conservatoire de Musuzera Italiana in Lugano, and holds a master's degree in orchestral conducting from the Haute École de Musique de Genève with Laurent Gay.
