Conference: Musical heritage in the Savoy region

in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Presentation

Lecture by Nicolas Perrillat, organized by the Association les Amis du Vieux Chamonix.

Did you know that one of the most precious musical manuscripts of the 15th century was copied in Thonon?
That the famous song "Étoile des neiges" is a cover version of a huge German hit? That the violin has long been the most common instrument in every Savoyard valley? The musical heritage of the Pays de Savoie is abundant: learned works by composers of the Savoy Court, traditional and popular songs, instrumental practices in rural societies... it's a whole cultural heritage to share!
The Mont Blanc Valley has not only influenced painters; composers have also drawn inspiration from it.
During this lecture, Nicolas Perrillat will give an overview of existing heritage collections, present musical instruments, and give some examples of songs from different eras.
