At a time when the 2ᵉ edition of the Summit for a Sustainable Mountain has reaffirmed the need for concrete, measurable action, the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley Tourist Office is launching an engaging, unifying operation: limit your footprint, free your emotions. Designed in partnership with the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix and the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, this eco-responsible competition has been devised to encourage a change in behaviour and highlight the destination's commitments.

An inspiring and committed competition

Lasting 5 days (4 nights), each participant will be able to choose the date of their trip between January 01 and April 01, 2026 (excluding school vacations). Each participant is invited to create his or her own stay in the valley, by selecting ..:

The Office de Tourisme de la Vallée de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc will draw lots and offer the trip to the winner* !

* Round trip for 2 people, including accommodation and activities.

The strongest emotions are those we experience together, so the winner will go with the person of his or her choice!

I want to take part

#1 Choisir son mode de transport

From the comfort of your home, choose between train, bike, electric car or bus.

This operation is part of a drive to change people's behavior by promoting alternatives to air travel or the combustion-powered car, such as the train or other forms of transport with low environmental impact. In this context, we are raising travelers' awareness of the need to adopt a sustainable approach from the outset, with a positive, unifying and guilt-free message: traveling differently doesn't mean giving up, it means discovering differently.

ATTENTION!

Only modes of transport with low environmental impact are promoted:
thermal cars and planes, which emit too much CO₂, do not meet the sustainable commitments of the competition.

À savoir

A round trip from Paris to Chamonix by train emits up to 15 times less CO₂ than by plane. For two, that's 80 kg of CO₂ avoided, without stress or traffic jams.

With the SNCF train station in the heart of the town, the Mont-Blanc Express train linking Servoz to Vallorcine, regular free shuttles and upgraded cycle paths, the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley makes car-free holidays a reality. The competition puts this issue at the heart of the debate, with a clear objective: to make low-carbon mobility the benchmark mode of access to the destination.

How to get to the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley?

The winners will stay in exemplary establishments awarded the Green Key label, the leading international sustainable tourism label for tourist accommodation. These establishments have been selected for their rigorous environmental approach and their concrete commitment to a more sober, more respectful form of tourism, deeply connected to the mountains.

Green Key accommodations adopt responsible water and energy management, reduce waste through sorting and composting, and offer sustainable food with organic, local or fair-trade products.

#3 Choisissez vos activités

From valley to summit, experiences that make sense.

Glacier hiking, glacier history or agricultural immersion: each activity cultivates a living relationship with the land. Far from clichés or intensive practices, the competition promotes a different relationship with the mountains, based on respect and emotion . These experiences, all rooted in the natural rhythm of the mountains, connect travelers to the natural spaces of the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley and raise awareness of conservation messages.

Local, responsible food

In keeping with the spirit of the competition, gastronomy is an integral part of the experience. The two winners will enjoy four dinners in committed Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley establishments, selected for the quality of their environmental approach and their commitment to local produce.

The partner restaurants share the same philosophy: locavore cuisine, highlighting fresh, seasonal produce from short distribution channels; a focus on promoting local agricultural sectors (breeders, market gardeners, cheese producers, etc.); responsible management of food waste, including composting, waste reduction and sober practices.

The fourth restaurant will be revealed the day our winners arrive, but shhh, it's a surprise 😊

À savoir

The Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Tourist Office has opted for transparency at every stage: the carbon footprint of proposed stays, implementation costs, CRM mechanics, communication channels activated, participation results... Everything will be shared and made available as living feedback material.

This transparency is more than just a token of sincerity: it enables us to measure the real effectiveness of our actions, and be a source of inspiration for other regions. It is part of a desire to capitalize collectively on what has been learned, and to inform future strategies for low-carbon tourism in the Alps.

The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix

For several years now, the company has been committed to a more virtuous approach to mountain activities, with a reduction in direct emissions, support for research and conservation programs (CREA Mont-Blanc, FNE, forest management), and environmental education (FOEHN fund).

To make this commitment concrete and transparent, the company has set up a carbon impact calculator for each activity offered: participants can find out the emissions generated by their outing (e.g.: 3 kg for a local activity, 13 kg for the Vallée Blanche) and add their journey. An educational tool that invites everyone to rethink the way they discover the mountains.

Compagnie du Mont-Blanc

It innovates for a mountain that is both modern and respectful, by favoring public transport, reducing the number of passes made by its snow groomers (< 4% carbon footprint), and equipping itself with more economical machines.

ISO 14001 and 50001 certified, we optimize energy consumption at all our facilities. Recycling is widespread, and waste is rigorously sorted at every site. In its Green Ticket, each lift indicates its impact: for example, 72 g CO₂ per person for the Aiguille du Midi, equivalent to a 300 m urban journey by car. Finally, thanks to the carbon impact calculator, the public can assess the footprint of each activity or journey, compared with other practices. This transparency enables everyone to make a conscious choice and participate in a sustainable mountain.
