The Autonomy & Safety - Level 1 mountaineering course focuses on the fundamentals of safety. You'll learn how to manage your own safety while developing your snow and rock skills.
Day 1 Climbing school in the valley - Overnight in the valley
Introduction to your guide, technical basics and climbing. Belaying the lead climber, setting up a safe bolt rope. Progress from belay to belay in reversible: setting up a belay, abseiling.
Day 2 Glacier d'Argentière - Overnight in the valley
Review of basic mountaineering techniques: use of crampons and ice axe. Fundamentals of crevasse rescue: hauling with pins and pulleys. Roping in glacial terrain and ice climbing with top-rope.
Day 3 Grande route and ascent to the Albert Ier hut
Climbing a multi-pitch reversible route with abseiling. Ascent to the Albert 1er refuge (2,702m) and overnight stay.
Ascent: 500m
Day 4 Race from Albert 1er hut
Race in the Glacier du Tour Basin, focusing on glacial terrain. Return to the valley mid-afternoon.
Examples of climbs completed: Petite Fourche (3,520m), Tête Blanche (3,429m).
Ascent: 800m / Descent: 1300m
