Visite du cimetière de Chamonix
A moving visit to a place steeped in history
We're going back in time to the town of Chamonix, closely linked to its Alpine environment. The first thing we notice is the extreme simplicity of the graves.
We'll be remembering mountaineering heroes such as Edward Whymper, Louis Lachenal and Lionel Terray. We'll stop at the vault of the Compagnie des Guides guides, whose names recall the tragic fate of men who "fell" in the exercise of their profession. We'll talk about those who were taken to the mountains by the war, and discover the young "non-Chamonixers" with a passion for mountaineering who fell on our summits. We'll stop in front of the wall covered with plaques in memory of "those" whose bodies were never found. It's also an opportunity to remember Simond, Payot, Ravanel, Couttet, Frison Roche and so many other professionals and amateurs who made the history of this very special valley.
A visit to the cemetery will allow us to evoke the very special world that is the Chamonix valley.
